We’re working on some really fun changes in our bedroom, but before I get started, I thought I’d show you how the room has changed in the past year and change.

Here’s the room before we moved in. The previous owner still had some stuff in there.

We set up shop and, for about a month after moving in, it was rough looking in there. Nothing had a real home, so stuff was scattered about (that goes for the entire house!). Also fun about this series: watch how my photography evolves, haha.

Then we painted the room Babbling Brook by Olympic.

The tall chest of drawers also got the boot for a Craigslisted dresser.

Oh, but we were still rocking those sheer ruffle curtains that the previous owner left behind.

Then we got a new duvet and I hung some curtains. See how the bedskirt is crooked? Yeah, that’s because we’ve been trying to make a full skirt work on a queen bed. Blaaaah. At least it hides the storage boxes beneath the bed?

The curtains were pretty dinky looking, so I plumped them up with two more panels.

But that’s about the extent of our updates. Isn’t that a little sad? I mean, we spend a lot of time in our bedroom. Yes, we’re asleep for most of that time, but still! For the next few weeks, I’m going to focus on this room and updating it. Here’s what we’ve got coming:

  • We bought (another) new duvet. The pintucked one pictured above will go the the guest room, but I’m sure I’ll rotate the two every now and then.
  • I’m teaming with Royal Design Studio to review and give away one of their beautiful stencils.
  • We bought trim for the room, but we need to wait for it to acclimate before installing it.
  • I’m on the hunt for lighting. I’d love some brass swing arm lights, but I can’t find any I like that are in my budget! I’d also like the tweak the ceiling fan a la vanity light.
  • We have IKEA nightstands that I want to customize.
  • It’s about time I built a headboard, wouldn’t you agree? I’ve been poking around plans and haven’t decided what to do yet, but that’s coming.
  • I’m going to take on the most frightening task ever: painting the ceiling. ACK. But the white ceiling is dingy, so it’s time.
  • I found a mirror to put over the dresser! It was on sale and I had a coupon, so it was $30 instead of $40.
  • Framed pictures and art are sorely missing in the room. I have a ton of great photos from Alaska…hmmm…
  • Lucy’s floppy brown bed? Yeah, that’s got to go. To buy for DIY? Eek!

That’s all…for now. The light and duvet will be ready to show off this week!

I’m excited to see what you do with your bedroom. I have a love/hate relationship with our master bedroom & I need some inspiration :)

  2. Can’t wait to see your updates! I find that most people put their bedroom off because most visitors only see the entertaining spaces…but I think couples need a fun and calming space to sleep! Good luck putting it all together!
