Powder Room Makeover Reveal

Recognize this room? No, of course not!

Okay, how about now?! Haha. The big powder room makeover reveal! After making some plans, tearing out the wallpaper and updating accessories, we finished the powder room makeover in 24 hours, just in time before my dad returned. Not bad for a flash makeover, huh?

I was really worried about the ornate gold mirror, but I think it works well – a juxtaposition of modern and traditional styles.

The room looks a tad brighter, wouldn’t you say?

The wall color is Baby Fawn by Benjamin Moore, color matched to Olympic’s VOC-free paint in eggshell. It’s almost the definition of greige, with washed out clay tones. Note the white trim as well! (Off-the-shelf white in semi-gloss from Olympic)

I didn’t paint the door – you can really see the difference in color. That’s a project for a later date.

I had this makeover in mind for a couple of weeks, so that gave me the opportunity to buy decor items here and there, as they were on sale. This thrifted frame had a weird chalky white finish, but I decided to spray paint it to tie-in with the mirror. (It’s the same spray paint I used on these drawer pulls!) The lighthouse image? Yanked from an Our State magazine on the living room coffee table 🙂

Another accessory tie-in came with the soap dispenser, towel and (not pictured) Nate Berkus vase. I’m so in love with crisp white lately. Oh, and just about anything Threshold from Target, obviously.

I’m thrilled with how the mixed metals turned out. I’m always nervous about pushing a bunch of metal finishes together, but the more I think about it, the “matching metals rule” seems more and more dated, like the “have only matching wood finishes in a room rule”. Why not just use what you like? You know, to an extent.

One minor project: spray painting the floor register oil-rubbed bronze. I’ve been thinking about doing this in our house (we have the same mud brown vents), so naturally, I experimented with it at someone else’s house, haha. But I love it! The after picture is a little more washed out than how it looks in real life.

This is another thrifted frame. I put a piece of the old wallpaper in it. I wasn’t in love with the bright metallic finish, but I left it there. My dad can decide what to do with it.

But most importantly, my dad loved it. He was totally surprised! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD! Haha.
