Hey friends. Welcome back to this month’s edition of What I’m Reading!

Last month I finished A Game of Thrones and dove into Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? One was REALLY good. The other was not for me. I’ll let you guess which was which. As for this month…

A Clash of Kings

Did I just give away which book I liked most last month? Yes, A Game of Thrones was excellent, so I continued the A Song of Ice and Fire series with the second book, A Clash of Kings.

This one took me an extra week to read even though the page count wasn’t much longer. The first book was spot on with the first season of the show. This one? Not so much. All of the storylines differ. Not anything terribly significant, but it’s different.

You can tell the show had to make choices based on time restraints and casting. The show handles characters differently – while there are fewer characters, you get more story out of minor characters like Bronn, Shae, Ser Jorah and Sam. But this is a good thing! Because the book has scenes that weren’t a part of the show, I could still use my imagination to create settings and characters. That’s why books are fun, right?

Gone Girl

How many of you have read this? All of you? Because I was on a waiting list at my library for two months before I finally got my hands on Gone Girl!

Gone Girl is a wildly popular psychological thriller. I started it on our drive back from Haven. I got maybe seven chapters in before I got anxious: I KNEW there was a twist but I didn’t know what it was. It was gnawing away at me.

So I looked up a plot summary. I. love. spoilers. My husband thinks I’m crazy, but you know what? If a book/show/movie is actually good, spoilers aren’t going to bother me. If anything, I just look forward to seeing how the author/director/writer presents the story. Creativity can’t be spoiled.

I’m close to 1/3 finished with the story and the spoiler hasn’t deterred me at all. It’s good. It’s easy. It’ll make you furrow your brow in confusion and ponder what the truth really is. But I must recommend: if you’re going to read it, don’t spoil it for yourself. I feel like I would have LOVEDDDD the twist so much more had I been patient. Oh well. I’ll give you my final thoughts on it in next month’s What I’m Reading.

[Update: I wrote this Wednesday night, and since, I’ve nearly finished the book. When I got to the twist, I couldn’t put it down. Let me reiterate: don’t read a spoiler. Just let your mind go nuts.]

So, what are you reading? Have you read either of these? Do you love/hate/love-hate spoilers?
