Hello Readers! Time for my monthly book installment, with a bonus TV feature! Last month, I was drooling over Gone Girl (have you read it yet?! who else is excited for the movie?) and I finished the second book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, aka, what Game of Thrones is based off of. Then I started and finished the third book. And now I’m on the fourth book. #cantstopwontstop

A Storm of Swords

So, for show watchers: season three ends in about the middle of A Storm of Swords. And good news: the second half of the book is a fantastic read. I mean, if you’re a Game of Thrones show fan and you’re champing at the bit waiting for season four, just hold on, because it’ll be worth it. Martin weaves an excellent story. Given how talented the showrunners are, there’s no way the upcoming season will go poorly.

Did any of you see that video making rounds in June showing people’s reactions to the Red Wedding scene? For reference (and in case it decides not to embed):

Basically, when I got to the last few chapters of A Storm of Swords, that was me. I wish there’d been a camera to capture my face. NOOO. WHHAAAAAAT. Yeah. Highly recommended read. Sure, the length of the books are daunting, but it’s so worth it.

And since I’m clearly hooked on the series, I went right into…

A Feast for Crows

I’m only a dozen chapters into the book so far, so I can’t give you any real insight. Each chapter is written from a character’s perspective, and the only major difference in A Feast for Crows is additional and different point of view characters.

That said, I’m a dozen chapters into the book and nothing much has happened so far. I’m sure it’s building up to something big, but, I’ll go ahead and say it: it’s going a little slow. I’m sure it’ll pick up though. The series is three for three in awesomeness, so I’m confident A Feast for Crows will kick butt.

Bonus! ABC’s Scandal

I’ve heard about Scandal so many times, with rave reviews about Kerry Washington’s performance as lead character Olivia Pope. When I saw that Netflix had added season two of the show, I decided to binge-watch it over Labor Day (well, most of the first season anyway).

Basic synopsis: Olivia Pope runs a consulting firm with lawyers who solve problems in Washington. And not just any problems. They solve the scandals before they become scandals. It’s pretty great if you like strong female leads, conspiracies and a bit of suspense.

Any good books in your life? How about new TV show obsessions?

Scandal is SO. GOOD. I started watching it early on, and it is easily one of my favorite TV shows! I can’t wait for the new season!
